📍 27 Manor Way, Borehamwood WD6 1QJ | 🚆 Near Elstree & Borehamwood Station | 📞 020 8953 3665
When you’re starting with a new dentist, the question isn’t only “what happens at the appointment?” but “how do I fit it in?” Between work, school runs and the journey, a dental visit is easy to put off. This guide shows how to plan your first appointment at Puresmile Borehamwood Dental & Implants around your week, then explains how to register and what the check-up involves.
Short answer: Your first appointment is a full dental examination. We’ll go through your health and concerns, check your teeth, gums and mouth, take X-rays only if they’re clinically necessary, explain what we find and agree a plan with you.
Fitting Your First Visit Into Your Week
We’re open Monday to Thursday, 8am to 6pm, and Friday, 8am to 3pm. Here are some practical ideas for different routines:
If You… You Might Find It Easier To… Commute to London Book an 8am appointment before the train, or a late afternoon slot on your way home. We’re near Elstree & Borehamwood station on the Thameslink line. Do the school run Choose a mid-morning or early afternoon slot between drop-off and pick-up, and ask us about booking family appointments together. Work shifts or irregular hours Tell us when you call, and we’ll find the best fit among our opening times. Work from home Pick a quieter mid-morning slot. There’s parking outside with no restrictions. Are retired or between jobs Take a mid-week appointment, when it’s typically quieter. Are arriving by bus Routes 292 (from Edgware) and 107 (from Barnet) serve the area. Whatever your routine, let us know when you book if you have any pain, as we’ll aim to see you sooner.
How Do I Register?
Fill in the “Register as New Patient” form on our private dentist page, or call 020 8953 3665. Mention whether you’re nervous, whether you’re in pain, and whether you’re interested in NHS or private care.
NHS or Private: Which Suits You?
NHS care is offered to patients who qualify. It covers examinations, X-rays, fillings, extractions, crowns and dentures, with sedation for suitable patients, charged under the NHS’s standard bands. NHS fees change each April, so please ask us for current prices, and check when you call whether NHS places are available. See our NHS treatment page.
Private care covers a wider range, including cosmetic treatments, Invisalign, implants and hygiene visits. For private treatment, you meet your dentist to talk about what you want, and have the checks needed, including X-rays and scans. You then take home a tailored treatment plan with no obligation to go ahead. See our fees page for current prices. We also offer payment plans and a monthly subscription, starting from £25 a month, covering check-ups and hygiene appointments among other benefits. Ask us for the current details.

Nervous, or Not Been for Years?
You’re not alone, and we won’t judge. Tell us when you book, and we’ll go at your pace. We offer sedation options and relaxation techniques, and your first visit is about finding out where things stand and making a plan that works for you.
After Your First Visit
If you need treatment, we’ll explain what it involves and what it costs. If everything looks healthy, check-ups are generally recommended every six months, though your dentist may suggest a different interval based on your oral health, age and risk factors. If a hygiene visit would help, we’ll tell you (see our hygiene appointments page). If you’d like to talk about your smile, we can discuss Invisalign, whitening, bonding or veneers.
Urgent Problems
Tell us when you call if you’re in pain or have broken a tooth, and we’ll aim to see you as soon as we can. If you have spreading facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or feel very unwell, seek urgent medical help through NHS 111 or 999.
